Programming is just ONE of the things that you need to do before cutting a part. You spend more time and money on various tasks. If you are like most programmers, to program a part you probably make a quick mental process plan, write the NC program, cut the part and go on to the next part because of production pressures. You have barely enough time to cut the part.

You have no time to pause and think whether the machining sequence that you first thought of is the best whether you are using the machine spindle power to its capacity, or whether you can improve upon the cycle time. You have no time to document your program, prepare a process sheet for future reference, or prepare a detailed tools list for the operator.
